I am most certainly sure that you have heard of Docker! That big blue smiling whale   🐳  Below, I will boil down in simple terms what is it and why I believe it is an important tool in the field of data analytics. What is Docker ? Over the course of history, the world has been through various crisis and chocs. One of the oldest recorded economic crisis was the one that happened about 2000 years ago, in the Roman empire . It was simply caused by the loss of trade ships that sank in the red sea and pushed the prices of goods like ostrich feather and ivory, the crisis expanded to touch real estate, trade and agriculture. Laurens Mort de Tibère About the same time the great house of Malchus and Co. of Tyre with branches at Antioch and Ephesus, suddenly became bankrupt as a result of a strike among their Phoenician workmen and the embezzlement of a freedman manager. These failures affected the Roman banking house, Quintus Maximus and Lucious Vibo. A run commenced on their bank and spread to other banking houses that were said to be involved.  This situation caused the banks to push borrowers to pay back their loans. Real estate value crashed because there were no liquidity available and the rest is hist...

Fighting Churn and Building Loyalty [Part 4]

Image
The Oath of Horatii by Jaques-Louis Davis. Louvre, France In this part of the series "Fighting Churn and Building Loyalty", I will be talking about the loyalty concept. It will be a bit longer than the other previous parts, because I personally feel that the area of customer loyalty is one of great importance and also of great complexity. The most important question to ask when working in the business world: " is my customer base healthy?" A healthy customer base is a very broad definition. Depending on the industry, and the different market benchmarks that can be made, each company could have a slightly different view on the health of its customer base. However, the most sought after KPI to measure the health of any customer base is 'Repeat Business'. This KPI indicates the percentage of your revenue that was generated by repeated customers. One would define a repeated customer as a customer that did more than one transaction over a fixed period...

Or more, i guess I decided to take a break from social media, blogging, sharing and interacting with online communities ( not a full break, because I did some stuff here and there...) And it was for an actual good reason. I have taken this decision because I wanted to focus on more important things. Not that blogging is less important. Indeed it is one of the few things that allow me to think about other things than what I do at work everyday. However, it is not always possible to find time to write, and I am not the kind of people to write about everything and anything. I'd rather not publish anything, than publishing weekly crap with no added value, copying and pasting stuff you've already seen somewhere else. This break was a true break for me to think, organize my personal road-map and objectives and build a clear vision of what may come. I have been successfully working on new things . I've managed to do a career transition from one field to new one...

Over the past few years, We have all witnessed an explosion in the number of articles, videos, online courses and job offers that are all talking about "Data Science" and Data scientists". “Portrait of an Impasto Imposter” by Eric Wayne This explosion has attracted people curiosity, and resulted in more and more "hype" around this "new" Science ( I will explain later why I put "new" between " " ) The trend above, shows how the world got interested in the term data science over time. What we see here is a proof that around 2011-2012, the world became more and more interested in searching about data science. What is Data science after all? I have written previously about this, you can read the whole article here. It is a bit difficult to put a general definition to the Data Science field as many companies and data scientists prefer to generalize and to include various activities and tasks to suit the reality, the needs a...
