After my talk at my school  exactly a month ago, I've had a new invitation to present my work "Optimization of technical reserves estimation in non-life insurance".

  This time the venue was very different: the invitation was sent to my by my own professor Ms Lilia Masmoudi, a professor that have taught me for over three years in the Higher School of Statistics and Data Analysis in various classes from Macro-economics, financial engineering, to corporate creation and evaluation.

It was an event organized by the academic association MASE : Statistical and Economical Modelling and Analysis".

For the first time, I have presented in front of a panel of experts, and here I mean really great names in the statistical and economical ecosystem in Tunisian academia .

 The director of my school Ms Rim Lahmandi was present at the first row of the audience along with other professors, economists and statisticians.

Hello World!
 I gave a talk today in my school of statistics and data analysis.
It was an awesome opportunity to present my work to the public, and here I am talking about future student statisticians and also colleagues who were present at the event.
There were people from academic backgrounds and also others who had a professional career .

I have talked about my graduation thesis, and about myself, as I was expected to share my experience with the public.

 Anyways, It was a nice event, I want to thank in particular the Tunisian Association of Statistical Engineers for the invitation, and all the people who liked my talk and came to thank me at the end of the event.

Data Science!

This time I will talk about a trending subject that many people like to talk about online. It is "Data Science".
I know I have promised to do some practical and technical articles and I did not forget about that, trust me ;)
I am currently working on a project and I will be posting a series of R demonstrations of my work (my statistician's graduation thesis) and I will be adding more things along the way.

So, about data Science, It is the new word in the dictionary I guess! Data Science is the thing that a large number of people were doing but someone thought that it would be cool to give it a name, and it was a cool name indeed!

What is Data Science? I don't want to copy/paste Wikipedia's definition here (but you have the link to it so you can check for yourself). I will give you my own vision and my personal understanding of the concept.

You should always remember that I come from a very technical background, as a statistician and data analyst.

So! I will start with a quote from the New York Times about data science:

“This hot new field promises to revolutionize industries from business to government, health care to academia.”

— The New York Times

It's the hot new thing! 

I see data science as the activity that involves collecting, cleaning, analyzing, visualizing and delivering the data as a simple useful information. It involves mathematical skills, coding skills and also as an important (very important) part of data science is to have extremely good analytic  skills.

C'est quoi "R" ?
(pas la lettre, mais le langage! )

Mon premier post est dédié à un sujet que j'aime discuter souvent: R.

Pour commencer, ma première rencontre avec R était à l'école supérieure de la statistique et de l'analyse de l'information de Tunis. Où ils enseignent un cours du logiciel R, et 80% des cours pratiques de statistique sont démontrés et réalisés avec R ( Nous avons eu des cours de SAS, Eviews et Excel aussi).

C'était donc dans le cadre des études d'ingénierie statistique et analyse de l'information que j'ai fait connaissance du grand logiciel et langage R.

C'est quoi R donc?!

R est un langage et un environnement de programmation  statistique et graphique. Il est inspiré du langage S. Ainsi on peut considéré R comme une sorte d'implémentation du langage S.

Parmi les points forts de R c'est la simplicité de sa programmation, la qualité des graphiques qu'il génère et la multifonctionnalité associé à ce langage.

Hello World! 

The first phrase that comes as an output for most of the beginners programming training lessons. It expresses the success accomplished by a first time programmer, when they see the result of their work on the screen.
I have had the intention of blogging about statistics and data and other cool stuff like economy or finance from the first day i got into statistics school.
But the thing is, i didn't really have much time,energy or experience that will allow me to blog on a regular basics. I was a full time student, NGO president and I've had many things going on at the same time that kept me from this.

Now, since I became a STATISTICIAN (I can say it out loud ! ), I think that I have a minimum amount of knowledge that will allow me to start this experimental blog!

The topics that will be covered on this blogs are mainly about statistics, data and open source initiatives and things that I like and want to talk about. Finance and economy will take a large share of my posts too. And I hope that I will have enough time to talk about other topics like business intelligence, bio-statistics, marketing, politics...etc I intend to talk about Everything actually!
